While shopping for lunch options, I came across Bonta Bonta at Wisma Atria's Japan Food Town. It's a small little space right at the entrance of Japan Food Town and specialises in Onigiri and Dashi. They use Kinmemai rice (healthier, lower calorie rice that has better texture and taste). At first glance, Bonta Bonta looks like just a counter selling onigiri, but they have a dine in menu and more to offer.
I popped into the space, browsed its menu and struggled with the options. Actually there weren't many options since its menu is not big. The Kaisendon and the Unagi don were fighting. Eventually, the unagi and its smaller price tag of $28 won and I ordered the unagi set. Before fooding, Kirin please, thank you.
The Unagi arrived on a gold and red platter and my jaw dropped. So big loh!! Eh auntie here first time see the unagi too big for the bowl can.

Wow. Even as I type this, my mood is improving, just looking at the Unagi. This set also comes with a refillable pot of Dashi, four types of condiments and a slice of watermelon. I was too busy fooding and did not take a picture of the dashi soup. I'm still regretting it. Sigh.
The shop staff explained that there are three ways to eat this:
- Eat the beautiful Unagi and puffy fluffy Kinmemai rice
- Add condiments into the rice and gobble up the combination
- Add Dashi into the preciously condimented unagi and rice to make own Chazuke and then proceed to yummy happiness
I added a small amount of the condiments, and they interestingly brought a distinctly different taste to the rice. The dashi was totally clear and elegant, but packed with clean flavour. Adding the soup to the rice created a combination of flavours that I really appreciated. I was in a good mood the whole day! Counting the days till I revisit Bonta Bonta!
