Japan 23 Mar to 5 Apr 2017 Day 7 - Tsukiji Fish Market / Yokohama Cup Noodle Museum / Yokohama Ramen Museum

Today's brekkie location: Tsukiji Fish Market!!

For starters, I got this mochi, quite liked it but Yk didn't quite like the texture of it.

This fish cake... tasted like fish cake ^^

There are several stalls and restaurants at Tsukiji, some of the popular sushi places being Sushi Dai, Sushi Daiwa, Sushi Zanmai etc

We walked about a little before deciding on Sushi Zanmai as the queue was more manageable and the prices affordable too.

I ordered a sushi set while Yk ordered a maguro bowl, and I had fun paparazzi-ing the chef in front of us, video-ing him forming the sushi. I'm not a sushi expert but he was definitely doing it very professionally!

A beer to start off the breakfast...

And tada!! My sushi set...

Yk's maguro bowl..

SO GOOdddd

We were so full, raw fish was just about the dribble out our noses. Yk's bowl was so full of fatty oily tuna that I believe it started to get real gelat towards the end. More about Sushi Zanmai here.

After we cleared as much food as we could, it's onwards to Yokohama Cup Noodle Museum! I was really looking forward to it because you can make your own cup noodle there!!

On the train to Yokohama
The train ride took us about 45min and we arrived at 2.30pm or so. It wasn't very crowded at all; not really what I expected, although I was probably biased by the depiction of Yokohama in 'Around The World in 80 days'

Before we started walking towards the museum, pepper lunch caught my attention. I've been eating it quite alot in Sg and I felt that I really must eat the original in Japan. I suspect Yk was mortified by my insistence to eat so soon after our meal at Tsukiji.

Anyhow, here goes! Pepper Steak in Japan!

Paparazzi-ing the Pepper Lunch staff.

Onward to Yokohama Cup Noodle Museum!

Finalllyyy.. We got to the museum after about 30min of walking. The sun was really quite strong.

Once I got in, I was almost immediately notified that there was no more customized cup noodles tickets; finish, run out, finito, habis. I was devastated. All around me were little sch kids holding their customized cup noodles in a bubble wrap bag. HAI! If only I went earlier in the morning. I got a pic of how the cup noodles look like after coming out of the Cup Noodle Factory online:

More info on Yokohama Cup Noodle Museum's Cup Noodle Factory here. This cup noodle museum is sometimes called the Momofuku Ando Cup Noodle Museum after the creator of the world's first instant ramen. The exhibits displayed information on how intant noodles were first created, and how it evolved and globalized. They were pretty cute exhibits too!

I am a self confessed instant noodle fan since young, and I was super happy going around browsing through the different types of instant noodles that were produced through the years.

Look at the 出前一丁 noodles produced in 1968, that are still in production with the exact same packaging, and the Nissin cup noodles produced in 1971!

You can see the different types of instant noodles and flavors targeted at different regions and countries too! Teriyaki beef flavored fried noodle flavour.. Hmmm..

Classic 红烧牛肉flavour for China

For Taiwan too, and kimchi for Korea.

The first instant ramen was created in 1958 by Momofuku Ando in a shed behind his home in Osaka. He worked alone and long long hours (slept only 4 hrs and no off days ok) for an entire year before creating the world's first instant Chicken Ramen. It was dubbed 'magic ramen' and was an instant sensation!

He then conceived the idea for cup noodles when observing supermarket managers breaking up the Chicken Ramen noodles into a cup and pouring in hot water on a fact finding trip to America.

And in 2005, Ramen that can be eaten in space was created!

I'm not like a real culture or history buff, but Momofuku Ando really created a new type of food and food culture, and one of my favorite ones too.

We love instant noodle!
Final scene before we leave

After surveying all the instant noodles, we were craving ramen! There's a Shin Yokohama Ramen Museum near Shin-Yokohama Station that houses a bunch of ramen stalls that you can explore.

On the way there, I saw some workers managing the high rise banners

Seee they are so high up. Respect for these people siah

And we reach

It was a pretty confusing place, where the gift shop was right at the entrance and there were all kinds of things, from stationery, to Ramen cooking utensils, to cutesy stuff. There was also some interesting information on the many types of ramen across the regions, everything was in Japanese so, couldn't really understand anything.

We went straight into the Ramen section; a very classic looking recreation of Tokyo in 1958, the year instant noodles were created. We had quite abit of fun taking pictures lol.

They even added blue skies to the whole area!

The ramen stall directories listed here.

There was an 'outdoor' drinks area and 8 Ramen shops. Each of the shops had its own ticket machine and most shops expect all patrons to get their own bowl of ramen. This means you can't really sample as much as you want. We decided to go into Muku Zweite; it was from Germany and would be at e Museum for a limited period of time only.

Next up was a Shoyu experience at Ramen Miraku.

By this time, we were super duper bloated. Like omgfatdieuscannoteatanymotealrpls. So it was back to Tokyo!

Cannot sit up cos my stomach was in the way..
