Value for money (VFM) lunch at Tsukiji Sushi Takewaka @ Japan Food Town

Whenever SE and I are left to our own devices for lunch, we would just gravitate towards restaurants Ha. Ha. Ha. Today we were drawn into Tsukiji Sushi Takewaka at Wisma's Japan Food Town by its lunch offerings!

This is the view from my seat, where I spent time staring at the sushi counter. Sushi Takewaka served its first edo styled sushi in Tsukiji Fish Market 28 years ago. I should pay the sushi counter a visit but that would be a meal for another day.

Today, SE and I are here for the Gekimori Chirashi Sushi - Donburi Style. ($14.40) We usually just call it Chirashi Don. Geki-mori can be translated to 'Overcrowded', thus we were ordering an Overcrowded Chirashi Don which we didn't mind at all.

The lunch comes in a set with chawanmushi, miso soup and watermelon. The Donburi-ed Chirashi Sushi is so colourful and pretty, we just had to smile at it. Nah, a close up to help alleviate our mood. *You Pretty Thing!!!*

I tasted the chawanmushi first, it was hot and very smoooth. I liked it, so I enlarged the picture.

So you know, if I liked a person, I'll end up enlarging the person, like so. Ha. Ha. Ha.

Ok I digress. The Chawanmushi - Good! Very smooth, delicately flavoured.

The fresh seafood on the rice was truly overcrowded, there were like countless pieces of tobiko (that's a joke. Hur. Hur. Hur), ikura, squid, tuna, salmon, prawn, white fish and so on. I must have chewed on a dozen pieces of squid. There was a thin layer of sakura denbu atop the rice. Personally I don't really enjoy Sakura Denbu because of its flossiness and sweetness. I had always thought it was something processed but it's actually made from fish! Here's an interesting article on how Sakura Denbu is made.

But I still don't enjoy it so I would definitely prefer it if there was less denbu. The rice was vinegared which I liked! Bless the person who first came up with vinegared rice, it has got to be one of the best discoveries ever. I found the seafood fresh but thought the entire bowl was abeeet dry, probably due partly to the denbu.

A good chawanmushi, a crowded fresh chirashi don, miso soup and sweet watermelon slice at $14.40, Tsukiji Sushi Takewaka's Lunch sets are definitely value for money -  VFM!!
