SE and I, left to our own devices again, decided to nom at Eat@7's Tokyo Sundubu. I was actually very excited to try the tofu stew, and thought that its such an interesting concept, Japanese Tofu Stew. I was not entirely right, Tokyo Sundubu serves Korean style tofu stew, and the word Sundubu μλλΆ means Soft Tofu in Korean, not Japanese. However, there was a slight Japanese adaptation : an option of miso flavoured stew in addition to salt and ginger. Their spicy soup base is created with beef and non spicy with seafood.
There was also an option for level of spiciness. I was amused to see that Singapore standard was Level 3. SE and I opted for Level 4. I ordered the seafood stew and SE the kimchi one in salt and ginger and they arrived shortly steaming hot. You can see that my phone camera was steamed up and I didn't even realise it.
First mouthful of soup delivered a real spicy kick! But a few more mouthfuls reassured me that it wasn't overly spicy for me. In fact, I really liked it! The soup was healthy, thick and flavourful. In fact, I found that it tasted more complex than the usual stew I ate at korean restaurants. The generous serving of handmade tofu was one of the best I had eaten, very soft, silky and tasty! It also appears there was no added MSG. One more pic, look at that big block of yummy tofu!
Paired with fluffy rice and some vegetables, I demolished it all, with a thumbs up!
