Lunch at Hokkaido Izakaya - Wisma Atria's Japan Food Town

There are two branches of Hokkaido Izakaya, one in Tanjong Pagar and another at Wisma Atria's Japan Food Town. Hokkaido Izakaya serves food made with produce from the towns of Furano, Yakumo, Akkeshi, Kamishihoro in Hokkaido. This post consists of 2 lunches I ate at Hokkaido Izakaya at Japan Food Town Wisma Atria.

Their lunch menu consists of a variation of mazesoba, soba and rice bowls. Between my 2 lunches, we attempted Tororo Soba ($13) - cold soba with grated yam, Kitsune Soba ($12) - hot soba with a piece of sweet fried tofu, Maze Niku Soba ($15) -  cold dry soba with signature sesame sauce and Wagyu Roasted Beef Rice Bowl ($19). You can choose the noodle weight, 100g/200g/300g based on your own appetite at no additional cost and SE went for the 300g, LOL.

Before the food arrived, we had loads of fun eating the onsen eggs that were provided on the table. We had thought they were hard boiled eggs at first, but found out otherwise when we cracked one open on the table. Ha. Ha. Ha.

The eggs were really good! I know they are just onsen eggs with soy sauce and tempura bits but the combined taste is super yummy!!! I gave the egg some picture effects because I loved it.

The eggs appeared to be free flow on my first visit but I believe the flow got less free on my second visit. No matter, we had great fun eating the eggs and easily could eat 2 or 3 at one shot. Ha ha ha.

Kitsune Soba

The light soy based soup of the Kitsune Soba combined with chilli power, tempura bits and seaweed was pleasant and happy combo. My lunch buddy felt that instant soba soup tasted better though I couldn't really comment since I had never tried instant soba soup before. The kitsune rocked, soft and sweet. Yum! The handmade noodles softened up pretty quickly in the hot soup which made eating them less enjoyable as time passed.

The Tororo Soba and Mazesoba were served cold and the noodles retained their nice chewy texture.

Tororo Soba
That's a 300gm tororo soba lol. The mountain yam gave the soba a smooth, slippery texture and a delicate flavour.

Maze Niku Soba

I liked the mazesoba! The meat was nice and soft, and made me feel like eating sukiyaki. Haha. Their signature sesame paste was light and made a happy combo with the bonito flakes. I would probably order it the next time I come back.

Wagyu Roasted Beef Bowl

The Wagyu Roasted Beef bowl felt really healthy with pretty generous serving of soft and lean slices of seasoned tender beef. Yums! The raw egg yolk which sadly did not survive the journey from the kitchen and was served broken really enhanced the texture of the beef and rice. I added some soya sauce n wasabi into the rice. Quite good!

In summary, Hokkaido Izakaya serves good quality produce, handmade soba noodles that are yummy served cold and healthy rice bowls for lunch at Japan Food Town! With the onsen eggs and large noodle portions at no additional cost, it's a pretty good place for lunch!
