According to their website, eating at Mrs Pho is more than just a meal but a lesson in Pholosophy. I may not have learnt much on the pilosophy of Pho from my visit, but I definitely learnt that Mrs Pho serves authentic Vietnamese food and experience.
It's located at Beach Road, one of the shophouses opposite Concourse (where we all used to buy our party items and knick knacks). The entrance is nondescript. I recognised it simply by the classic squat stools you see all over Vietnam outside the restaurant.
When I stepped into Mrs Pho, I thought I had stepped into a portal that transported me into a side alley in Vietnam.
The wall graffiti, stamps, the tables and chairs, the bustle of the place really brought me back to my visits to Vietnam.
The menu offered a good variety of sides, noodles and rice at affordable prices. We ordered the Hanoi Meat Balls ($3), Fresh Spring Rolls ($3.50), Special Beef Combo Soup ($8.90) and Dry Vermicelli with Pork and Spring Roll ($7.90).
The grilled meatballs are reallly yummy with balls of pepper that add peppery tangs to each mouthful. The fresh spring rolls... were really fresh. Ha. Ha. Ha. The skin of the spring roll was soft and fresh, the ingredients taste fresh. Although it would bave been better if the pork was less dry, I was bought over by the fresh skin and mint leaves!
