Omakase Fun at Teppei

I had wanted to dine at Teppei for the longest time. A few years back, I attempted to make a reservation by calling in and was informed that the resturant was booked out till a few months later, and reservations would reopen in two months' time. I saved the reservation opening date in my calendar and called diligently to no avail. When I finally got through... Teppei was fully reserved till the end of thr year and I was informed to wait another few months.

Like ReALLY?!?!?!?!

So I gave up and it wasn't till recently that I revisited the idea of Omakase at Teppei. Thanks to my cousin YM, I was made aware that Teppei had revamped their reservation system to an online one that opens at 9am on the first Sat of every month to take in reservations for the following month. E.g. Log in to Teppei's Reservations on the first Sat of November to make a reservation for any date in December.

On the first sat of Aug, I got up at 8.30am and went onto the reservation website at 8.50 to stare at the page and refresh n refresh n refresh until 9am annnnnnddd GOOOOoO!!!!!! I think I was the first person to make the reservation LOL. At 9.15 I proudly announced that 24 Sep 2016 was Teppei Day!! Hoooray!!!

24 Sep 2016
At 6.30pm, the doors opened and we all trooped in! We were seated at the side and here's my view, overlooking the ta bao boxes...

I had thought complimentary beer was provided until I realised it was tea.

So I got the real thang!!

While everyone was settling down, the staff started coming around to check on our food preferences and we got started!!

First up, we got an appetisery dish. I really loved the tomato and broccoli though I wasn't that hyped up about the salmon and salmon skin. No matter cos the raw fish is here please.

Check out those pieces of yummilicious looking raw fish! Love that beautiful tinge of pinkish colour!!!

Next up was the Chawanmushi with yuzu. It was a very smoooth Chawanmushi with a piece of white meat at the bottom. Because I was expecting chicken, I was pleasantly surprised when the taste of fish filled my mouth.

One of the highlights of the meal was this!!! The Negitoro Roll was just sooooo yummmy with tempura bits, and ikura. It was really gooood!!

See the inside, see the inside!

Negitoro Roll. Damn good.

Oyster with Yuzu chilli. A rather big Oyster served in a ponzu like sauce with some spring onions and a dab of yuzu chilli. The chilli was tangy and added some zest to the oyster. I'm not an oyster lover so all I can say is, it was fresh and I welcomed the zest of the yuzu chilli.

Sesame Tofu. It's Sesame.. Tofu heheheh

The next dish was Flatfish with mushrooms. It was pleasant and delicately flavoured despite the sad look.

I couldn't take pictures of the next two items because we were fed them. The chefs/staff went 'aaahhhh' and we had to ahhhhpen our mouths and accept a spoonful of Uni, scallop and salmon truffle.
We were also fed cinnamon ice cream and foie gras. I couldn't taste the cinnamon but after the initial surprise of cold ice cream paired with foie gras, I found that I enjoyed the combination lol. The yummy buttery taste of foie gras lingered in my mouth hehhe. I'm such a hypocrite, I don't take shark fin but I gulp down foie gras. Ho. Ho.

Next up was popped rice. They were cute and buttery, I kept eating them, esp since the chefs/staff passed a bowl over ROFL.

Next was a deep fried Yellowtail in broth. It was light and tasty even though the fish was fried.

Next...

When this arrived, I was like... What huh? It was a pickle with a wonderful woody smoky taste. I swore I heard the chef say Sakura Wood but... I might have been wrong lols

This Kagoshima beef doesn't look like much, but it was. YUMS. with the garlic.

Next up, we were given a Japanese Tomato. I LOVED IT. No pics cos I was just too busy savouring it. So Damn Good. Argh!! And next was a Japanese grape. 我的第一次。。It tasted like Qoo Grape drink. So good.

A soup was then placed in front of me. I demolished it.

Mains time!!! I chose Uni fried rice.

I liked it, though I found that the uni taste was abit strong. Nonetheless, I finished it all, though I was VERY FULL then.

There were a few ice cream options -  Yuzu, Calpis, Salted Caramel, Sesame, Green Tea. I got salted caramel. We got a try a few more different flavours since the chefs/staff gave out free additional servings. Giving free additional servings is definitely a good way to create value haha. Actually, I would say that Teppei's Omakase at $80 is indeed value for money!

The chefs/staff were really friendly and joked about abit. They made our dining experience all the more enjoyable. Thank you Teppei!
