Food, Travel and Doodle: Bangkok

Today is my last day in BKK, sad! Yet I was kind of happy to be going home because it felt like I hadn't had a proper conversation with someone in a long time. Hahahaha. After 2 days or so, I had started to make little comments to myself lol

Anyway, today was the day for me to try to complete my BKK to-eat list! I woke up as early as I could to make a trip to Jok Prince for porridge because a colleague had told me it was '很！好！吃！‘ The nearest BTS stop to Jok Prince is Saphan Taksin and its a short walk from there.. I spent longer than needed because I somehow just couldn't locate it using Google maps. When I gave up and looked around, I saw it nearby..

Lol.. And there was a queue so I happily joined it..

The queue hardly seemed to move... And I started wondering if I was at the right queue. I asked the person in front of me and my question was overheard by the lady (boss) who promptly informed me that the queue is for takeaways and I should just take a seat. I was led to a seat, and given a menu. I had to try hard for someone to take my order. And finally.....

It was interesting, because the porridge had a smoky and slightly charred taste. I felt it was treading a fine line between chao tar (burnt) and porridge wok hei (if there is such a thing) and the wok hei won, haha. The meat was vv yummy and tender! In all, I really enjoyed the porridge,got to come back and eat it soooon..

I spent some time walking up and down, so I took a pic of the shop to ensure I don't miss it next time Hahaha.

Next up on my To Eat list was a duck noodle shop that was reviewed by Misstamchiak.com along Chakrabongse Road. I saw that it was near the Phra-Athit pier so I planned to take the Chao Praya Express from Sathorn pier, then walk down. I realise that my type of solo travel involves alot of walking lol.

Up and down, up and down Tang Hua Seng Dept Store... In search of the elusive duck stall...

And finally, I asked a stall owner and was directed to the stall. Thank you Stall Owner, because I'm sure wouldn't have been able to locate it on my own.. The signboard has a duck on it. Can you see it below??

Haha, anyway I crossed over and ordered a bowl of duck noodles from the lady standing at that small space..

Unexpectedly there are seats further in! Sat down to wait for the noodles huehur... At this point in time, perspiration was flowing freely all over the place, seriously...

And the noodles arrived!

The soup was super hot! I burnt my tongue. Pretty light soup and soft duck slices. I found this quite forgettable though and felt abit sad that I perspired so much to eat it.

After finishing the noodles, I made my way back, but not before I stopped by Kanom Chin Namya in a small alley along Tang Hua Seng Dept store for some laksa.

Can choose the items I wanted, abit like yong tau fu style? The ladies selling the laksa were pretty helpful and friendly which was nice.

Quite light and yummy! I enjoyed it!

After finishing all the food... My next stop was Central World, to buy Bake cheese tarts. LOL. Ok ok I know, it's available in SG too. But I still wanted to bring some home.

On the way back to the pier...

Came across this Thai Crepe shop. It looked yummy so I bought some!

They were even better than I expected. Crispy, fragrant, sweet and chewy. Thumbs UP for Khun Dao!!!

Passing by Siam Paragon, thought the floor of Sealife Ocean World is so pretty haha..

Finally! At Centralworld, Bake

Bought a box and started to made my way back to the hotel. Along the way, I saw some Jeremyville Community Service Announcements on the walls. (Delayed googling informed me that there was a Jeremyville exhibit at Centralworld). I really identified with some of the messages..

Especially this one. I have to constantly remind myself that have the power to do this!

Couldn't resist buying this cutely bottled milk from a clean food type food exhibition. Spent a long time taking pictures of this, trying to get a good light on this bottle! This the best I came up with before I moved on...

The last item on my foodie list was to buy alot of mini breads from DK Bakery that I really liked. It was not a short walk from Chong Nongsi.... But I pushed on.. For DK.. However.... When I reached the place... The shutters.... Were down........... I was like.. Wth..... And left empty handed and upset.. RARRRRRRR

Rushed back to the hotel as I was supposed to check out by 5pm. I think I reached the hotel at 5pm. OMG... I flew in, washed up, grabbed my bags, and ran out. I then proceeded to pack my baga in the toilet because I was shy to show everyone what I had in my bags. The toilet had no ventilation and I swear.. I lost 1kg of water through perspiration.. I should have just been thickskinned and packed in comfort...

Since it was dinner time, I stopped by a wanton noodle shop near to Silom mrt that I had been eyeing for a while.

It was quite satisfying! After adding in some of the sauces provided, it had a spicy savoury taste I really enjoyed! It didn't have that pork lardy taste that sabsab has, and the quantity was like more than twice??

After finishing up, I made my way to the airport. The queues for check in, and at immigrations, were so crazy, i kept complaining to myself under my breath...but anyway I made it into the plane eventually... And take offf!!! Byebye Bangkok! I had a great trip! XOxO.

On the way back from Ayutthaya, I was happy and cool watching downloaded shows in the air conditioned carriage. Hahaha. I didn't eat much earlier so I was going to feed myself once I reached Bangkok! I planned to visit Chinatown for food since it is near the Hua Lampong Railway Station, but I decided to detour to Thip Samai Restaurant (Pad Thai Pratu Phi) to try the famous Pad Thai!!

When I got off at Hua Lampong, Google Map directed me to the road beside the railway. There were lots and lots of delivery type vehicles, lorries etc and people loading, unloading, checking gooda etc. I was like the only person who was just walking along the road with no obvious job scope... Needless to say, I was kind of OOP (Out of Place)... Hahahaha...

Anyway, I just followed the directions on Google Map below and went on ahead with purpose in my eyes and ear plugs in my ears. :D

As I walked, I noticed nice mini murals on the walls of the railway station which I assumed were painted by kids studying in nearby schools . They brightened up my walk and I had to take pictures so I won't forget them.

After snapping like a gazillion shots, I continued down towards Thip Samai for... Pad Thaiii!! Halfway through the walk, I suddenly felt very uneasy and weak. It was abit scary since it was the first time I felt like that. I though I might be low on sugar or sodium or something since I hadn't eaten much and so I pushed on as fast as I could towards Fooooooooodd. While walking around this area, I came across a tiny roadside shop, proceeded to grab like 4 packs of chips and stuffed chips into my face.

Till this date, I'm still not sure what happened, but I'm glad to say that I fully recovered after finally arriving at Thip Samai and gobbling down the noodles and drinks :D

Finally reached the front of the queue!! I definitely HAVE to eat here since I walked so long and nearly fainted to eat this.

At this point, the greeter asked me 'want aircon?' Usually in Singapore, greeters ask this question when the air-conditioned areas were filled and only the non-airconditioned areas were available. I was so hungry, I replied 'no need aircon' in hopes of getting a seat fast. But.. I was passed over and the person behind me who wanted aircon was led into the restaurant.. And the next person who wanted aircon was going to be let in too!! I quickly stopped the greeter and told her 'aircon OK!' and I was immediately led into the air conditioned area.

I then realised that there was a surcharge for sitting in the air conditioned area. I can't remember the amount but i felt it was nominal for the comfort I experienced after my walk. The service here was really good as well!

Ordered the SUPERB pad thai and I really liked it. It's good quality noodles and has a delicate taste. There were various 'add ons' at the side like peanuts and I liberally added them in.

I really liked the coconut shake though the taste got abit strong after I almost finished it haha.

Conclusion is, i concur there is reason for the long queue! I ta bao-ed the orange juice again (Big bottle this time).

After I paid for the food, I resumed my journey towards Chinatown. I had wanted to visit this char kway teow stall that I read about on Aroimakmak.com. I could not locate it the day before so I decided to try again. I had just taken a few steps out of Thip Samai when I saw this roadside stall selling noodles.

I read about this stall; Tee Yen Ta 4 and it was on my to eat list for 2 trips. Since I was alr outside the stall, I didn't think much and just sat down. When in doubt, order number 1:

The kway teow was v.chewy and I really liked the whole combination of sweet, savoury and spicy soup! It was sho goood! The portion was not big and so i demolished it.

When I stood up, I thought my tummy was going to explode......

Onward towards Chinatown! *Burp

Before reaching Yaowarat, I came across a night market and I turned in to check it out.

This night market catered for guys. Most of the clothes on sale were guys' clothing. I thought that was interesting as most markets I had been to catered more to ladies. Anyway.. Onwardd... to Yaowarat... Loooook foood galoorrreeeee....

I couldn't eat anymore but my stomach made room for dessert!! I found this bird nest shop that I read about:

Snall place, the owners speak chinese. Was nice to hear them communicate in chinese ^^

The shop sold some hot food but I was only there for the bird nest! The prices vary alot, depending on the class of bird nest. I just chose the 3rd grade one in e coconut (cold).

And tada!!!

It was good, it was yummy! The coconut juice was so sweet, sho niceeee! It was a healthy, and a great choice for dessert that night. I was very happy LOL.

And then towards the MRT.. Saw these 2 old men sitting along the roadside enjoying TV, quite cute lol.

Back to Silom, I walked past Pat Pong night market and decided to check it out. It is my first time at Pat Pong! I came across a stall that sold really cute pouches and draw string bags. With no one to stop me, I proceeded to buy buy buy! It was so warm and I perspired so much I think can fill a 500ml water bottle.

Was walking along this road when I glimpsed a big bunch of underwear clad girls on stage through the door of one of the pubs on the right. My eyebrows went upppp lol.
